If something has been damaged or in case of repair, the villa representative will account to the client for the security deposit and refund the balance due the day of the departure or within 10 days maximum after the end of the rental.

How can I get a cell phone to use in France?

One option is to rent a cell phone that is delivered to you in advance of your trip. We recommend purchasing a cell phone on location. There is a cell phone store right in the airport or in Nice so you can get a phone as soon as you arrive. European cell phones do not require a service contract; you purchase prepaid phone cards as needed. This way, you are not charged for incoming calls, and calls made within the country you are visiting are considered local. If your U.S. phone is an "open" or "unlocked" phone (T-Mobile and Cingular use this technology), you may be able to use it with a phone card you purchase on location. Check with your provider to see if this is an option for you.

If your appliance is not adaptable for dual voltage, you will need a converter to allow your appliance to run on European voltage. If your appliance runs on dual voltage, you will need a plug adapter to make your appliance cord fit the European outlet.

Is it difficult to drive in Europe?

Driving is not difficult, but there are some issues to consider. When choosing a rental car, we recommend renting a small car unless you are 6 or more people. Cities and villages are not van-friendly with their ancient, narrow streets. It is usually better (and less expensive) to rent two smaller cars, which also gives you the flexibility to pursue different activities at times. We suggest you pick up and return your rental car at the airport rather than a downtown location, if possible.

Do I need an International Drivers License?

France does not require an IDL at this time.

How will I find the villa?

Your final package will be sent to you a month before your trip. It will include complete directions for your arrival, including driving directions, and contact information for the owner or key holder of your villa. It will also have contact information to leave with family and friends while you are abroad. Arrivals are typically on Saturday between 3-4pm. If you find you delayed, call your host to let them know and to arrange a new rendezvous. If you are arriving on Sunday, traditionally a family day, special arrangements must be made in advance.

What time must we leave the villa?

You are expected to vacate your villa by 10 am at the latest on the morning of departure. If you plan to leave very early in the morning, please notify the property manager on arrival day so that you can arrange to return the keys and take care of any fees to be paid.

Can I shop and pay with my credit card?

Every business in France seems to accept credit cards as payment. It is more convenient than travelers checks or cash. Savvy travelers bring more than one major credit card, each from a different bank, because sometimes an approval for a purchase by credit card will be inexplicably denied, while a credit card from another bank is accepted for the same transaction.

You can use the local ATM for cash, "un distributeur". You will find them outside most banks and post offices. Check with your bank before you leave to see if there is an extra charge for overseas withdrawals. If you don't want to use credit, a debit card with a major credit card logo will work just as well. (Be sure to remember your PIN!)

French credit cards use a microchip. If the trade person seems to have trouble, point out the magnetic stripe and indicate that you will have to sign for the charge.  Of course it is still a good idea to have some cash in the local currency.

The Euro

The euro began circulation on January 1, 2002. There are 12 countries that adopted the euro: Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal.
